Who we are helping ?

Nepal's new story is not all about hopelessness and disaster. It is also about hope and the youth of the country. After the first earthquake struck the power of ‘grass root’ organisations became apparent. Once electricity was back on social media came into its own. Dataminers, mappers, programmers and communicators started to make a difference. Word was sent by mobile phone and then Nepali and international first responders loaded trucks, jeeps & motorcyles and carried relief into areas, delivering their own shelter, food and water, digging people out of debris, clearing roads, donating blood etc.

KCAC was established as an arts charity with the UK Charity Commission, which simplifies and focuses our aim. We will be supporting artists' grass roots organisations, which amongst the chaos are making a real difference to peoples' lives. They and their work are desperately important.

  1. 1.NEPAL PHOTO PROJECT We are funding a photographer to capture stories and share them through the Nepal Photo Project (NPP), to help document the long term re-building process and help keep news from Nepal in the world’s attention. The NPP instagram account now has over 62,000 followers and will continue to grow.

  1. 2.ARTREE NEPAL an artists' collective, who have been working with a farming community in Bhaktapur's Thulo Bhyasi, Ward 10. At their camp set up in a nearby field, the artists constructed benches so that mealtimes would be more pleasant for the farmers. The artists are working on several projects such as "Camp Hub," "Knitting with Women," "Children Workshops," "Movie nights," and active documentation with their Post-earthquake community art project. (Artists include: Mekh Limbu, Hitmaan Gurung, Sheelasha Rajbhandari, Lavkant Chaudhary, Sanjeet Rai, Ros Rai, Arjun Bhandari & Dawa Sherpa.)

  1. 3.REBUILDING BUNGAMATI PROJECT with Sujan Chitrakar and the students from Kathmandu University.

  1. 4.ARTWORKS Sangai Khelu (let’s play) for the non-profit organisation Srijanalaya, with artists: Sanjeev Maharjan, Sunee Maharjan, Sharareh Bajracharya & Subima Shtrestha.
